The design is a faithful reproduction of the scarves people wore in the 1820's to commemorate Lafayette's return to America.  It includes a "Welcome Lafayette" emblem, an American flag, the eagle with 13 arrows, lady liberty blowing a trumpet, laurel decorations and more.  The symbolism in this scarf is wonderful!
